OK, so we aspirated! We have to thicken liquids to honey consistency. Been there, done that before. We will have to have the study redone in about one month. The good news is that we can do puree fine, which is the yogurts, applesauce type things and of course solids!! YEAH. We came right to the room and ate two yogurts and I had to stop him because he started gagging. (Not sure if it was the food in the belly or if it was the potassium they were pushing through his tube at the same time--probably the potassium) SO, I have to go and find a sippy cup that has a slow and fast flow on it so we can put liquid in it. He has such a strong suck that without the flow he was still aspirating honey consistency. To CVS I go....that way he can have something to drink. He asked for the bubbles the other day, and wanted to drink them...it has been bad not being able to give him something.
So, no surgery for a Mic key button....just thickened liquid, even medicines, until we have a follow up study. They say that once he is back to himself, walking, climbing, talking....he should be fine with the drinking of liquid.
