Day 1-PICU

Tucker and Daddy sharing a moment prior to him entering Mercy.

Tucker was moved to the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) last night before 6:00. They put him on Milrinone and Digoxin, both heart medicines. They have given him extra doses of lasix to remove the fluid that has built up due to the lack of heart function. He was still fussy and could not settle down last night so they gave him something to rest. Todd stayed the night with him and I got to sleep in our bed. Besides a HUGE headache I feel rested today. They are calling this a heart failure. His liver is enlarged due to the heart not functioning properly causing extra blood to fill the liver. This, they say, will fix itself as the lasix kick in and the heart starts working correctly. His color was back instantly last night when they put the i.v. heart medicine into him. Today? I am not sure what is in store. I believe they told me last night they were going to retake the echocardiogram to see how it looks after being on the medicine last night-I understand it is that good, it can change the status of the heart very quickly (for the good). I can only pray that it does.!
